Raekwon f/ Ghsotface & Crooked I - Yes Sir
On February 19th, Stenge-O-Matic of Anotha Level will be releasing a project called "The Live & Direct Show" which features none-other-than Crooked I. However, this project is more than a regular underground feature as Crooked I appears along side the Wu-Tang Clan's Raekwon and Ghostface Killah. Many Hip Hop fans would consider this to be a "dream team" collaboration. Fans are able to preview the track on the project's MySpace page and can make their purchase through Amazon when it becomes available. Those who are not familiar with Stenge-O-Matic's group Anotha Level may be interested to know that their first album "On Anotha Level" was executively produced by Ice Cube and sold over 250,000 records in 1994. Stenge's upcoming "Live & Direct Show" also features T.I., Glasses Malone, Akon and many more. Make sure to cop this project and support this heat!

Proton - Fade Away
PROTON - FADE AWAY from PROTON on Vimeo.
I'm been uninspired by music lately and hearing this brought back the feeling that I've been missing. The ATL duo reminds me of Outkast in the early days but they are far from Outkast clones. While Proton brings back the feelings of golden era hip hop they don't strive to bring "real hip hop" back but rather move it foward into progression.

Joe Budden - A Letter To Saigon

The internet's favorite rapper officially gets at the yardfather. These two been beefing for a minute over a punchline by Mouse that Saigon took offense to. Comments had been made back and forth but this is the first track released. I think the real problem is these two just watch worldstar too much...

You Think Life's Sweet Better Get It Together, Its A Cold Ass World Somebody Get Em A Sweater
Life isn't fair, and that's the greatest part about it. A man's success is defined by his struggle. Our trials and tribulations are what make us as human beings and over coming adversity builds character. The greatest moments in history are and will always be the underdog story. Barak Obama winning the election wouldn't be significant if the country didn't have a history of racial oppression making him an underdog because of the color of his skin. As the great Joe DiMaggio once said "A ball player's got to be kept hungry to become a big-leaguer. That's why no boy from a rich family ever made the big leagues." If Goliath slue David the story would have no meaning. A man can not truly enjoy the light if he's never experienced the darkness. In times of depression we learn more about ourselves and dig deeper to achieve greatness. It's often not the destination that's important its the journey.
Its a cold world they don't want you to shine, so I doubled up my ammo and tripled my grind. I quadrupled my hustle the world is mine. I'm not stopping for a minute I gotta get it.

Maestro Fresh Wes-Nothing At All (Throwback Video)
Most of the readers are likely American and have never heard this song at all. Other than Let Your Backbone Slide some won't even know who Maestro even is. Maestro is the godfather of Canadian hip hop, comparable to say an LL Cool J. This track first dropped in 1991 and was really the first conscious hip hop song I actually listened to that reached me (I was 6 at the time, I have an O.G. tape of The Message so its not like I started listening in 91, I just became old enough to understand ). This is the song that made me wanna pick up a pen.

Brooklyn's New Star
Lou$tar was born in Brooklyn, New York, the son of Bowlegged Lou, one of the founding members of the legendary music group Full Force (you know the dudes in House Party that Kid And Play stay beefing with).
Bowlegged Lou hoped that the musical legacy that he started would continue on, so he saw to it that music played a major part in his son's life. At the very early age of 4, Lou$tar received his first tape player. Along with the tape player, he received a complete catalog of music from the Full Force family such as Lisa Lisa and U.T.F.O. These were his first musical influences. As Lou$tar grew up he was exposed to not only the acts within the Full Force family, but to legends throughout the industry. His family's notoriety and fame gained him access to exclusive performances of hip-hop heavyweights such as Kurtis Blow, LL Cool J, The Fat Boys, to Joe Ski Love and even witnessing Jermaine Dupri performing as a background dancer for Whodini during the Fresh Fest. With music playing such a big role in his life, there was no doubt that one day he would be inspired to create his own.
Lou$tar’s musical talents range from Hip-Hop, Rap and R&B to Pop. Within his music, Lou$tar brings witty lyrics as well as crazy punch lines, all while providing flows so smooth and hypnotic. It's as if you are being instantly drawn into his music.
Lou$tar has had the opportunity to share the studio with mainstream artists ranging from rap artists such as Method Man and Lil Kim, to pop acts such as The Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears. Aside from collaborating with hit makers in the studio Lou$tar has performed across New York State at numerous venues including his 2002 performance with music group Full Force and their musical act, Lisa Lisa, on BET's 106 & Park.

Senator helped free John Forte from prison
SALT LAKE CITY, Jan. 1 (UPI) --
U.S. Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, says he helped John Forte earn his freedom from prison because of the rapper's plans for a new life.
The Salt Lake City Tribune said Wednesday the former Fugees star was released from prison Dec. 22 after U.S. President George W. Bush supported Hatch's plea by commuting Forte's seven remaining years in prison.
Forte had been in prison as part of a 2001 conviction on charges he received 31 pounds of liquid cocaine as part of drug ring.
But Hatch wrote in a 2006 letter that Forte changed his life once incarcerated and began helping his fellow inmates through music.
The senator even pledged his own time to help the rapper adapt his prison good deeds to the outside world.
John will make a difference if allowed the freedom to do so and I am personally committed to helping make sure that he keeps his promises once he is released, Hatch wrote in his letter.
The Tribune said Forte's case came to the attention of Hatch thanks to singer Carly Simon, whose son once went to school with the 32-year-old rapper.

Evidence Missing Under Walker's Watch
LEWISTON, Minn. — Money, drugs and documents are missing from the Lewiston Police Department’s evidence locker; close to $50,000 sent to the city is unaccounted for; and a number of public records are missing from City Hall, acting Mayor Richard Ahrens said Wednesday.
Ahrens made the comments at the conclusion of his final city council meeting, saying that incoming council members should address the problems.
“I hope they get everything straightened out,” Ahrens said.
A new mayor and two new council members will be sworn in next week, but when contacted Wednesday afternoon, Mayor-elect David Sommer said he hadn’t been told about the problems.
Police discovered that items, including an undisclosed amount of drugs and “a couple thousand bucks,” were missing, after taking an inventory of the evidence locker shortly
after Dan Walker was hired as interim police chief Jan. 31, 2008, said Police Chief David Kleinschmidt.
The locker, which can be unlocked only with a key, is stored in the police chief’s office in City Hall, Kleinschmidt said.
Council members asked Walker to conduct the “in-depth” inventory after the city received a “very, very strongly written” letter from the Winona County Attorney’s Office expressing concerns about the locker, he said.
Ahrens confirmed the city received a letter from the county attorney’s office, but he could not recall the subject matter.
When Winona County Attorney Chuck MacLean was contacted at home, he said he investigated the missing evidence but will not comment on the investigation until he returns to the office Friday.
Police investigated the missing evidence and passed on information to the county attorney’s office, Kleinschmidt said.
Walker and Kleinschmidt instituted an evidence log shortly after their arrival, they said. The log documents what goes in and out of the evidence locker, as well as when the lockers is opened, by whom and for what reason, Kleinschmidt said.
“There’s supposed to be documentation,” he said.
Ahrens also described how nearly $50,000 given to the city by the fire department is unaccounted for. The money was supposed to be placed into a fund for a new fire department building, Councilman Jack Kanz said. No such fund was ever created, city officials said.
The problem was discovered during the city’s most recent audit, Ahrens said.
Kanz suspects the money was “misfunded” n that it simply got placed into another of the city’s accounts. With no documentation, Ahrens said he cannot be sure where the money is.
“If it’s there, fine,” he said. “If it’s not, I’d like to know about it.”
Many city records, including minutes and tapes from past council meetings, have also been taken or destroyed, said city administrator Barb Hampel. Ahrens reported that “almost all the records are gone” from 2005.
City officials have known about the missing records for some time, but they never determined who destroyed or took them and why, Ahrens said. Kanz said he suspects a past councilman told a former city administrator to destroy the records before they realized it was too soon to do so under state law.
In an unrelated incident, council members Wednesday approved placing a written reprimand for one year in the file of an employee who allegedly took confidential data from City Hall. The city brought in a third-party investigator to investigate the incident, the council said.

Increased Snitching During Recession Hurts Crime Stoppers
The local Crime Stoppers affiliate wants to clarify something for the public: they're a nonprofit, not a police agency.
While some nonprofits feed the hungry or house the homeless, Crime Stoppers helps solve crimes. But like others nonprofits, the group is concerned about raising enough money at a time when needs are increasing.
"Crime actually goes up during hard economic times because you have more people out of work and they feel a little more desperate," said Cpl. Fred Bowie, a Charleston police officer who serves as the local Crime Stoppers coordinator. "They might be more likely to commit crimes, from passing bad checks to armed robbery."
As is, they are seeing an increase in tips over the past several months. So are counterparts throughout the state and the nation, said Frank Morea, a former chairman for Crime Stoppers of the Lowcountry.
While the increase in tips is good news, it means they need to pay out more in reward money — $100 to $1,000 depending on the quality of the information.
Since they survive on donated office space and the sweat equity of at least a dozen volunteer board members, they can get by with $20,000 to $30,000 a year.
But that money could dry up without an increase in donations.
For the first time, they are planning fundraising events and want to host a golf tournament in March.
Board Chairman James E. Jurey said it's important to continue the work, especially with the prospect of widespread financial woes making things worse.
"We're only going to be seeing the beginnings of this right now," Jurey said. "Everybody in the end is going to be affected by it. We all need to take part and we all need to be responsible."
Crime and the economy intersect
This is just so messed up its not even funny. Snake dudes snitchin for the reward money gonna put the damn Crime Stoppers out of business. Recession got everything all fuxed up.
